Help Us Make Sick Pay Fair for All
Imagine being unable to afford basic necessities because you're too ill to work. This is the harsh reality for many people in our community. We want to change this by joining Safe Sick Pay Campaign.
As part of our commitment to a cash-first approach to tackling food poverty in Cornwall, Transformation Cornwall is working with the Centre for Progressive Change to highlight the need for increasing Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
The recent changes to the Employment Rights Bill in October 2024 introduced some positive steps, such as paying sick pay from the first day of illness and removing the Lower Earnings Limit. However, the current SSP rate of just over £3 an hour is still far too low. By making sick pay safer, we can create better workplaces that ensure people can meet their living costs if they need time off.
We need your help to change this. By advocating for safer sick pay, we can create a world where no one has to choose between their health and their livelihood. The Safe Sick Pay campaign, supported by MIND, Young Lives vs Cancer, and the Royal Society of Public Health are calling for an increase in SSP.
A poll, conducted before the July election, by Focaldata found that 77% of the public support increasing the level of SSP.
In the New Year, we’ll be meeting with our Cornish MPs to discuss this issue, which affects 1 in 3 people, and to hand-deliver “Get Well Soon” cards featuring supporters' signatures.
Take action now! Please click on the link below to sign the card, and let your MP know that you support this campaign for healthy and safe sick pay for all.
