Rolling out our “Keep Cornwall Carpeted” Campaign in St Austell
This October we have been actively raising awareness of our "Keep Cornwall Carpeted" campaign in St Austell Parish.
Our efforts included door-to-door visits to social housing tenants, where we discussed the campaign’s goals and collected evidence and testimonies from the local community. As we travel across Cornwall, we continue to hear from residents about the significant financial, emotional, and social impacts of living without carpets for extended periods.
To kick off Challenge Poverty Week on Monday, 14th October, we met with St Austell Town Councillors. During this meeting, we explained the purpose of our campaign, amplified the voices of affected constituents, and sought support to encourage social housing providers to review their carpet removal policies before new tenants move in.
Sam Williams,Transformation Cornwall's Campaigns & Community Organising Manager, said: “We have been warmly welcomed by St Austell residents who opened their doors to us, shared their personal stories, and signed our local petition. This has allowed us to demonstrate to St Austell Town Councillors the significant impact of living on bare floors. We look forward to continuing these fruitful conversations, gathering more stories and data to show that this is not an isolated issue but one that has a ripple effect. We urge tenants of Guinness Partnership Home who have moved into properties without adequate flooring to speak with us. Their voices matter, and we are determined to amplify them.”
On Friday 8th November, between 1pm and 3pm, we'll host a community event for social housing tenants of Guinness Partnership Home at Bethel Chapel (PL25 3EB). This informal gathering will provide an opportunity to share food, learn more about our campaign, and listen to lived experiences.
If you are interested in attending, please let us know so we can ensure there is enough food and drink for everyone. You can call or text us on 07449 248113.
