Stories of Hope and Hardship Delivered to MPs in Cornwall

Joining a growing movement urging the UK government to take action on hunger, we have sent copies of 'The Hardship Times' to Members of Parliament across Cornwall this week.

Published by Trussell, The ‘Hardship Times’ is a newspaper filled with stories of hope and hardship gathered from over 1000 individuals across the UK by food banks, charities and faith groups across the UK. The first copies were distributed to Westminster on Wednesday 20th Nov 2024 as food banks, anti-poverty charities and people with lived experience of hardship, and celebrities gathered at Parliament Square.

Commenting on the event, Emma Revie Chief Executive at Trussell said: “Today, people united from different backgrounds, sectors, and regions, stood shoulder to shoulder to amplify the powerful stories of communities across the UK. Together, our collective voice - thousands strong - resounds with undeniable clarity: the UK government must act now and take immediate action on hardship and hunger.”

Throughout the summer, Transformation Cornwall promoted the "Laying it all out on the table" campaign across local food banks, grassroot organisations, as well as faith groups, inviting communities across Cornwall to share their personal and often poignant stories of going without the essentials.

Sam Williams, Campaigns & Community Organising Manager said: "We applaud Trussell for their ingenuity in designing such a powerful platform to relay these often-untold stories, breaking misconceptions and highlighting the variety of circumstances that may lead people to need a food bank. We believe that in 2024, everyone in the UK should be able to afford the essentials without having to turn to a food bank. This is why we have been working closely with our local food banks to promote Trussell’s campaign over the last few months and now help relay the message to our local MPs that it’s time to act for change.”
